Workshop "Getting more leadership skills" (PSI-Akademie)

Target audience:

  • Mentees of the Mentoring Programme for Women with Leadership Ambitions
  • Women with leadership ambitions
  • Women, who have recently taken on a leadership role

The participants are able to/learn how to…

    1.       … actively take on responsibility and leadership tasks
… reflect their personal leadership patterns, expectations and preferences
… learn to broaden their repertoire of leadership skills and thus their scope for action
… recognize, where and how they can take next steps in their career
    … build a network

  • What shapes the context of leadership? (Especially in expert organizations such as the PSI, what characterizes the working environment of tomorrow?)
  • How can we better understand organization and leadership situations by using different perspectives (structural, political, cultural and HR perspective)
  • Transactional, transformational leadership or both – what works? (With a reflection part about “what do I like about leadership, what is rather difficult for me?)
  • How to be effective as a leader? Two dimensions of management and leadership (contents and communication/processes) with specific tips for day-to-day management tasks such as agenda setting, chairing meetings, dealing with power,  leading different employees, etc.
  • How to deal with unconscious biases in leadership situations like recruiting and performance evaluations? Including diversity dimensions like full-time, part-time, gender, age differences, cultural differences etc.
  • Peer to peer consulting or personal reflection part
  • Focus on three levels (organization, team and individual):
  1. Institutional level/organization/department: Input and discussion on four different perspectives to better understand organizations. The aim is to identify and expand scope for action.
  2. Team level: How to staff a team? What conditions do teams need to work well? How do my preferred leadership patterns affect teamwork?  What influences our perception in performance evaluation and recruitment situations? How can I expand my leadership repertoire?
  3. Self-management: What are my patterns? Where do I have my resources? Where do I need support?  What are my best excuses?

  • A variation of inputs, videos and group work.
  • Additionally, the participant receive two to three reflection questions, which they have to work on in advance, and literature, videos and/or tests as preparation for the day.
